The history of Okatsune in a nutshell

The story of Okatsune dates back to 1925, the year master blacksmith Okano began his career. Using traditional methods and a unique heating and cooling process, he forged a small number of top-quality shears. These first shears were specially made for harvesting mandarins and oranges.

Over the years, Okano gradually expanded his product range and founded the Okatsune company in the 1940s. From the beginning, he made the handles red and white, which symbolize good luck in Japanese culture. In 1965, the first Okatsune hedge shears became a reality. The rock-solid design from back then has remained virtually unchanged to this day. Round oak handles and a razor-sharp blade.

Starting in 1970, the second and third generations of the Okano family modernized the production process. The traditional forging hammer made way for modern machinery and new technologies. The tricks of the trade were passed down from father to son.

A hundred years later, in 2025, you'll still find the passion and craftsmanship of that era in every Okatsune shear. The secret? It's in the power of simplicity and centuries-old metalworking knowledge, which Japan masters like no other.
